A Brief History of RCCG

Founded in 1952 by Josiah Akindayomi, who was dissatisfied with doctrinal deviations, he left the Cherubim and Seraphim Church and started a small fellowship in Lagos, called The Glory of God Fellowship, which later became The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) after a divine revelation RCCG began as a small fellowship in Lagos, Nigeria, after he left the Cherubim and Seraphim Church following God’s call. Akindayomi received a divine covenant promising growth and provision if members remained faithful.

In 1981, Enoch Adejare Adeboye succeeded Akindayomi, leading RCCG to rapid global expansion with thousands of parishes across Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Its flagship program, the Holy Ghost Service, attracts over 500,000 monthly attendees in Nigeria and globally. RCCG continues to fulfill its mission of spreading the gospel worldwide.

    • Demonstrate the relevance of Christianity through contemporary and creative expression of our faith.
